THODEY
Thodey Architecture are an established architectural practice designing beautiful homes along the NSW East Coast. This plays a part in our approach to collaboration in our projects where we pride ourselves on our intimate and personal client relationships from design concept to build completion.
Our design ethos is that a building is a living and breathing entity with a life cycle and our relationship with our homes and our environments are holistically connected. As with our approach to all aspects of life, we believe the design and build should be joyful and exciting. Buildings nurture our sense of place, and we advocate for our built environment to combine fun, provoke curiosity, design excellence and environmental responsibility in every aspect. We believe in tactility and detail in all aspects - feel, touch, smells, light and volumes of space are the innate way that we interact with our built environment and the world around us.
The design brief is one of the most important parts of a project; the brief informs us as we design spaces that enhance and incorporate the daily rituals of our clients lives intertwined with the seasonal and lifetime duration of the build itself. Our design process also tackles the complexity of affordability and working to a budget. We do not believe quality and architectural excellence is related to the extent of your budget but choosing the right materials and construction methods with utmost care to aesthetic, priority of needs and with carefully thought-out efficient design. Our approach is making the most out of the least possible.
SHAUN AND MONICA
Shaun and Monica have worked in collaboration for over ten years as Thodey Architecture creating beautiful buildings, landscapes, spaces and objects.
Monica holds a NSW Architect Registration, Masters of Architecture (UNSW) and has worked previously with many of Australia’s award winning architecture firms at varying scales. She is passionate about bespoke residential architecture and creating joyful, tactile spaces. She also loves exploring her creativity through Ceramics.
Prior to Thodey Architecture, Shaun had extensive experience working in Design/Build and Construction of residential projects. Shaun Holds a Masters of Architecture (UNSW) and a Cert IV in Building and Construction. He also loves exploring his creativity through designing and handcrafting bespoke timber furniture and joinery.
We both have a love of the outdoors and the natural environment, both being avid rock climbers and explorers. We believe this all leads to our appreciation of our surroundings and enhances our love for creating spaces within our built environment.
